Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa in Timmins, Ontario offers one of the most unique stays in the province, and our recent four-night visit in one of their Wolf Cabins highlighted both the magic and the missed potential of this experience. The Wolf Cabin is beautifully designed—modern, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out to emphasize its star feature: the all-glass bedroom that doubles as an observation deck. Watching the wolves roam, play, and interact is genuinely magical. It’s the kind of experience that stays with you long after you’ve checked out. During our stay, the wolves tended to keep a distance of about ten metres or more, so guests should temper expectations about close encounters unless staying multiple nights. We were lucky to witness one wolf come near the cabin, and it was unforgettable. Inside, the cabin delivers on its promise of elevated comfort. The rain shower, modern finishes, and expansive glass bedroom are all standout features. However, housekeeping and maintenance standards need attention. We encountered stained bed sheets, dusty nightstands, and a missing coat rack. More concerning was water leaking from the glass observation room’s roof—likely from condensation and heavy snow buildup—which dripped onto the bed. Although staff responded promptly, the issue appeared to resolve itself before maintenance arrived, and the damp bedding was never replaced. While the wolf experience is undeniably special, the overall stay does feel slightly overpriced, especially given the inconsistencies in cleanliness and maintenance. That said, the uniqueness of observing wolves from your bedroom window is something few places can offer, and that alone may justify the rate for many guests. Service at Cedar Meadows is a mixed bag. We want to give special recognition to Paul, Victoria, and Jenny (Housekeeping), who were an absolute pleasure throughout our stay. They handled every request with enthusiasm, warmth, and genuine kindness. Victoria and Paul kindly offered a discounted rate for my partner’s birthday and the length of our stay—an unexpected and deeply appreciated gesture. Jenny went above and beyond with multiple housekeeping trips after we kept remembering forgotten items. On the other hand, interactions with Nathalie felt strained. Simple requests were sometimes met with visible irritation, and so I might suggest that some additional customer-service training could improve consistency across the team. Although we didn’t stay in the main resort building, what we saw of it felt outdated and in need of a refresh—though some may find its rustic charm appealing. The location is convenient for accessing local restaurants by car or delivery apps. However, travelers should be aware that beyond dining options and the resort’s amenities, there is very little to do in Timmins itself. Despite several shortcomings, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would consider returning—if only to experience the wolves in a different season. Cedar Meadows offers something truly rare, and with improved attention to detail, it has the potential to be extraordinary.

We stayed from Friday night until Monday morning. This trip was wonderful! We went for my 30th birthday celebration. The wolves were wonderful, the cabin was very nice. The glass bedroom with heated floors was amazing! Food at the restaurant was absolutely wonderful, especially the breakfast poutine! The people at the front desk were so nice and very helpful. The spa was very relaxing and the animal tour was nice seeing the elk bison and of course the wolves from a different view. Only rating 4 stars due to the toilet in our cabin not being useable the entire weekend, wouldn't flush. Was told there was no maintenance so we just made do with the lobby bathrooms. Would 100% come again and look forward to doing so!

Where do we even begin? Our stay was nothing short of incredible! The moment we arrived, Paul greeted us with the warmth and familiarity of old friends, instantly setting the tone for an unforgettable getaway. Our cabins were absolutely stunning — cozy, beautiful, and the perfect place to unwind. Within the first 30 minutes, we were already watching wolves in their natural environment. These animals are beyond majestic. Over our two nights, we were lucky enough to hear them howl, watch them play like energetic puppies, follow their travel paths, and even see them gather for dinner. Every moment felt magical. Dining at the restaurant was another highlight. Kennedy, our waitress, was an absolute gem — friendly, attentive, and incredibly thoughtful. On our second night, she remembered our drink preferences and what we enjoyed the evening before, which made the experience feel extra special. Although the weather didn’t allow us to do the wagon wheel tour, it simply gives us the perfect excuse to return! And while the spa area was a bit chilly with the strong winds and snow, we still loved relaxing in the steam room. Overall, this was a 9/10 experience, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, memorable, and heart-warming adventure. We can’t wait to come back!

This place was beautiful! We had an amazing time. The staff was absolutely awesome with everything we needed. The place was clean and comfortable. We were there for a hockey tournament so we didn't get to experience as much as we would have liked to but we will be going back to get the sleeping with wolves cabin sometime this year. And to take some tours of the other animals they have there. Anyway amazing place and amazing staff definitely deserves 5 stars from my experience.

My sister and I traveled over 8 hours to stay in one of the wolf cabins and we were not disappointed! Even though the weather was crappy, it rained almost the whole time we were there but we did still see quite a few wolves! 7 at one time was quite exciting!, the staff had put pumpkins out for the wolves and it was so cute Watchung how they reacted to them! Rooms were super clean and the staff at the main hotel were very nice! Timmins mall and lots of different places to eat were really close and we even hit the little casino and Timmins museum! Only complaint we had was the slow service we had at the resort restaurant. Food was delicious but we were over 2 hours in there. So Happy we did this as it was an Awesome Once in a lifetime experience! Timmins is such a Beautiful place with so many friendly people too!

We had a truly unique and memorable stay at Cedarwood Resort, staying in the Sleeping with Wolves cabin as a family of four — even in -18°C weather! Despite the cold, the experience was magical. Watching the wolves up close from the warmth of the cabin was unforgettable, especially for our kids. The cabin itself was cozy, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed to let you feel connected to nature while staying comfortable. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the overall concept of the resort is truly special and one of a kind. A couple of areas where the experience could be even better: • Wolf feeding time: It would be wonderful if the feeding could be announced in advance and possibly spread across all viewing windows, so guests in different cabins get an equally immersive experience. • Breakfast options: Offering a buffet-style breakfast for a set price would greatly enhance the stay and provide more flexibility and value for guests. Overall, this was a fantastic family experience and something we’ll always remember. With a few small enhancements, Cedarwood Resort could make an already great stay truly exceptional. Highly recommended for families and nature lovers looking for something unique.

We visited Cedar Meadows this winter and it was absolutely worth it. We stayed in the Wolf Cabin, which was clean, cozy, and beautifully designed. The glass-wall bedroom overlooks the wolf enclosure, and seeing 4–5 wolves during our stay was truly surreal. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. Room service was available daily, and the restaurant was exceptional—especially for vegetarians, with plenty of delicious options. Both dinner and breakfast were fresh and not greasy. We drove 8 hours from Toronto in winter, and the roads were well-ploughed and easy to navigate. The resort was easy to find on Google Maps. Highly recommend for a unique, relaxing getaway. You don’t have to go to Quebec—this amazing experience is right here in Ontario. I definitely want to be back for other seasons!

Very nice establishment. I was here for a business trip, and the front desk staff went above and beyond with helping us. The Food and Beverages Manager was very exceptional - you could tell that she was passionate about her work and ensuring that my company’s event went amazing. The hospitality was incredible. The restaurant inside was also fantastic. I really loved the art installations and how historic they were. All of the servers were amazing - I love how they all greeted me and recommended me with some foods and drinks, even if they weren’t my table server. The server that tended to my table was Makayla, and she was lovely and personable. When I go back to Cedar Meadows, she’s one of the staff that I’d definitely love to see around again.
